celebrating los Reyes Magos in the Mission
Mission Lotería is a San Francisco-based organization dedicated to celebrating Latino culture, strengthening community ties, and driving foot traffic to the Mission District's small businesses through live events, interactive experiences, and digital storytelling. Since 2019, we've hosted over 4,000 attendees across game nights, scavenger hunts, pop-ups, bar crawls, and community gatherings — built and run by a small team and a network of Bay Area artists who shape every part of what we do.

From a grassroots idea to a citywide movement
Mission Lotería started in 2019 with a simple question: how do you get people off their phones and into small businesses?
The answer was a real-life version of Lotería — the traditional Mexican card game that's been played at family gatherings across Latino communities for over a century. Instead of cards drawn from a deck, players got cards tied to real Mission District businesses — a panadería, a bookstore, a bar, a corner taquería. Visit the spot, get the card. Collect enough cards, win.

What started as one shop-local game night turned into a recurring event series. Then a tour program. Then pop-ups, scavenger hunts, bar crawls, and full neighborhood activations. Six years in, we've platformed dozens of Mission small businesses, partnered with Bay Area artists and musicians, and grown a volunteer network of people from across the city who show up because they want to.

Built in the Mission.
Growing for the future.
We're proudly based in San Francisco's Mission District — the heart of our story and the inspiration behind everything we do.
Today, we operate with a core team of six, alongside a growing volunteer network from across the Bay Area. We've been working remotely and from a satellite space in the Excelsior, but we're actively building toward our next chapter: opening a permanent home on Mission Street. A space for community, creativity, and culture — right where it all began.
